Did you know that overheating is the most common cause of mechanical breakdowns on Sydney roads? And that overheating your car can cause severe damage to the engine and the automatic transmission?
Maintaining your vehicle’s radiator, fluids and cooling system are essential to keeping your car on the road.
COOLANT (ANTI-FREEZE)
The coolant protects your engine from overheating and from freezing. The coolant’s effectiveness can diminish over time and lose many of its protective properties. The cooling system itself can get clogged with built-up deposits from oil, grease, scale, hose decomposition, and other materials.
CHANGING YOUR COOLANT
Check your car’s owner’s manual to see the recommended interval for changing the coolant in your vehicle.
Some reasons for getting new coolant
- Your vehicle has recently overheated
- Your coolant or temperature light comes on
- Your temperature gauge reads higher or lower than normal
- Preparing for a trip
RADIATOR FLUSH
Our radiator flush service can help prevent inconvenient vehicle problems or unexpected issues that can stem from letting your radiator go unchecked. This service can be scheduled along with regular maintenance (like oil changes or tire rotations) for less hassle and for peace of mind, knowing your vehicle has received all recommended maintenance from Clovelly Automotive.
BELT AND HOSE SERVICES
Belts run the water pump; power steering pump and alternator, to name a few. Belts are exposed to high heat and run at high speed so they will eventually wear out. Often there is no warning that a belt is wearing dangerously thin.
Hoses are found throughout the car, not just under the hood. Hoses deliver fluids to major systems like the brakes, the transmission and the radiator. They are also needed for the air conditioning and other smaller systems to run effectively. Hoses can become brittle and crack or lose elasticity.
Often a hose will develop a leak, which is sort of a damp warning that something is amiss. Hoses can also fail with no warning, which is why they, like belts, should be checked regularly.
